Mission

Austin Justice Coalition educates, organizes, and empowers communities in Austin to build racial equity and dismantle systems of oppression through advocacy, policy change, and community programs.

990 for the year ended December 31, 2024

Program accomplishments

  • Project Orange: In 2024, the organization advanced voter access through Project Orange, a civic engagement initiative serving individuals incarcerated pre-trial who remain eligible to vote. AJC distributed 384 voter registration forms, resulting in 334 completed registrations, ensuring that eligible community members awaiting trial were informed of their rights and supported in exercising civic participation. Justice Access Support Initiative (JASI): In 2024, the organization supported individuals impacted by the justice system by facilitating access to affordable legal representation. Through a local law firm partnership, AJC connected four community members to attorneys who provided services at a discounted rate, increasing access to legal advocacy despite financial barriers. Radical Advocates Academy (RAA): In 2024, the organization conducted two online cohorts of the Radical Advocates Academy, providing intensive training for 20 emerging community leaders. Participants engaged in policy advocacy, organizing, and public speaking workshops, with several graduates advancing into leadership roles on local boards, organizations, and advocacy coalitions. Bro Brunch: In 2024, the organization hosted two Bro Brunch gatherings, engaging over 200 Black men and boys in discussions on mental health, mentorship, and community leadership. Each event featured speakers, peer dialogue, and access to local resources, strengthening social support networks and fostering resilience. Black Art Matters: In 2024, the organization continued operating the Black Art Matters program, though on a smaller scale than in prior years. Instead of hosting a large annual event, AJC supported local Black artists by providing opportunities to showcase their work and engage community members through smaller gatherings and collaborations. The program remained focused on uplifting Black cultural contributions and creating paid opportunities for artists. Crisis Relief (Mutual Aid Program): In 2024, the organization provided direct crisis relief support to 26 individuals, distributing $34,466 to assist with rental payments, childcare, groceries, medical bills, and other urgent needs. This program reduced financial hardship for community members and promoted stability by addressing immediate and essential expenses.
