Mission

MAS activates and strengthens communities through art, raising awareness of the history and cultural contributions of Black Latinos for social change and racial equity.

990 for the year ended December 31, 2025

Program accomplishments

  • Connecting MAS/Youth Program (Conectandonos MAS): A youth program that seeks to educate and inspire young people to connect with and explore their ancestral roots and learn about the cultural contributions of Black Latinos for social change and racial equity. Through connecting with local artists who promote Afro-diasporic arts, the program educates and engages the Seattle community. The program culminates in a final celebration where the results of all the work done by the youth are shared with the community.
    Expenses $186,262
  • MAS Conversaciones para MAS Ogullo: MAS Conversations for More Pride (MAS Conversaciones para MAS Orgullo): A virtual space for support and healing for members of the community, born within the framework of the COVID-19 pandemic in response to national racial tensions in May 2020. The program aimed to raise awareness about anti-blackness and provide a space of support and healing for Afro-descendant LQBTQI people, racialized people, and allies. In 2025, MAS Conversaciones expanded its programming, producing and launching the 1st and second series of the MAS Podcast para Mas Orgullo.
    Expenses $32,396
  • MAS Workshops and Events: MAS collaborates with local Afro-descendant and indigenous artists to host free in-person and virtual workshops and community events. In 2025, the organization hosted an online autobiographical writing workshop led by an Afro-Dominican writer, as well as an outdoor community festival celebrating Latin American street vendor traditions (pregones) while raising awareness about environmental justice issues affecting local Black and Indigenous communities.
    Expenses $29,332
