With a total of 16 young people who joined this journey of exploring their identity and history through the arts. During the journey they developed art pieces, photographic self-portraits and group interviews with artists who promote Afro-diasporic arts. From the long-term process of maintaining the consistency, durability and operation of MÁS workshops, collaboration and events, to the necessary logistics required event planning, the committee works to guarantee program effectiveness and success, ensuring that each is under the guidelines of the MÁS mission and vision. 2023 collaborations and Events:1. Beacon Hill Small Business Pregones: Business Alliance (BBA) and Movimiento Afrolatino Seattle (MÁS) collaborated to present Beacon Hill Small Business Pregones, an open-air performance celebrating Latin American and Caribbean street traditions. All performances highlight the cultural diversity of Seattles Latin America and Caribbean communities, reflecting the contributions of Indigenous people and people of African descent.2. MÁS Ancestral Whispers: Of Land and Sea. With the intention of bringing a greater awareness of MÁS as a space for connection, healing,and remembrance of AfroLatine presence and lineages here in greater Seattle, we showcase a range of traditional music and dance from 9 Central and South America Regions, unifying our Afro Diasporic communities. We brought the cultural flavors and artistic manifestations of the Latin American Afrodiaspora to exemplify deeply rooted cultural connections as well as differences across the regions. We saw this opportunity as a path for reconnection with former MÁS artistic collaborators after years of disconnection due to the pandemic and as opportunity to leave a historical mark in the memory of the Benaroya Hall, as Black, Latine/x, Indigenous and immigrant communities occupy and transform spaces that at other times have been denied to us.
