Mission
The Northeast Bat Working Group (NEBWG) is comprised of individuals representing a number of organizations, companies, and government entities. Members include many of the leading bat researchers in the Northeast US, along with several other individuals with interest in the research, recovery, and education about bats. A winter meeting is held each year at various locations where participants present results from previous studies, provide updates on long term projects, and plan future multi-state collaborative endeavors. State representatives provide summaries of their state's bat related activities, while federal representatives provide updates on national scale policy and protection efforts. The current mission of NEBWG is to facilitate networking with bat biologists and overhead is covered by volunteers. Annual meetings are supported by meeting registration fees and sponsors depending on the venue. There are no annual dues.
Program accomplishments
- In 2025 NEBWG organized our annual meeting, which took place in Saratoga Springs, January 14-16, 2026. This meeting had 230 attendees. In addition to this meeting, NEBWG sponsored 4 student travel awards to help cover the cost of attending and encourage student attendees at the conference. These awards consisted of three $500 stipends to the top three students in NEBWG's application process and a complimentary room to NEBWG's student representative on the Board of Directors.
- The conference is generally in January, so we spend the preceding year planning for the conference. So, we spent 2025 planning for the conference that took place in January, 2026.
