Mission
The Women's Storybook Project connects and strengthens the bond between children and their incarcerated mothers through the power of literature. By fostering meaningful connections, the program aims to reduce the rate of re-incarceration amount mothers, lower the likelihood of children following a path to incarceration, support literacy and promote positive parenting and improve communities through the healing power of story and connection. Through each book sent and each story shared, we help rewrite futures - one family at a time.
Program accomplishments
- In a heartfelt effort to maintain bonds between incarcerated mothers and their children, the Women's Storybook Project reached across 11 women's prisons in Texas, enabling 625 mothers to record stories and/or write caring notes, 782 children to receive these messages of love, and 6,758 books and/or recordings to be mailed to children across 23 states. This initiative continues to bridge distance with the power of storytelling, nuturing connection and healing one book at a time.Expenses $426,970 · grants $134,119 · revenue $487,655
