Mission

Our organization provides programming and activities for Jewish Scouts in all scouting programs- Scouting America and Girl Scouts USA. The Dallas Jewish Committee on Scouting is an offshoot of the National Jewish Committee on Scouting.

Program accomplishments

  • We support the Prestonwood Rotary organization set out and pick up flags for their fundraiser of flag leases. People can lease a flag to be put out in front of their house for 5 flag holidays. We average 180 flags each holiday. The Rotary pays a portion of the flag lease price to the groups that deliver and pick up the flags. This allows our Jewish scouts to raise money for their scouting programs and provides a way for the DJCOS to make a nominal amount of money to run programs.
    grants $1,519
  • DJCOS assists the Dallas Jewish War Veterans group to place flags on the graves of Jewish War Veterans at 2 cemeteries in Dallas on Memorial and Veterans Day holidays. We set out about 250 flags for each holiday. We do not earn any money for this and there is no cost to us.
  • In 2024, Chanukah was celebrated while scouts were at winter camp. We sponsored 4 nights of candle lighting, food and fun for all scouts who wished to attend. About 14 scouts attended each night and there were 5 adults on average. Members donated food, candles, and snacks, so there was no cost.
