Program accomplishments

  • Our program for Sanctuary Gardens has been successful in several ways, most importantly providing foods that are familiar to the community we serve. We are creating a space where our community feels safe and welcome to come and enjoy time with their families working the earth. This provides a safe area free from discrimination for our Latinx and Indigenous migrant community. We feed out of our 2 gardens around 100 people and use the space for holding events and practicing cultural revitalization, food sovereignty, passing intergenerational knowledge pertaining to food cultivation. There have been acts of vandalism and hate crimes at the garden and raised some funds for garden security in 2022, with the support of the City of Arcata and pour community we have not had any hate crimes or vandalism for 1 year. We have worked to expand the project to include a small farm to provide fresh food and teach young people how to start businesses. The farm has been a great volunteer and cultural enterprise poroviding hundreds of families with fresh produce and activities passing generational traditions to the next generation. Our CSA worked and where our revenue came from however it doesn't offset the cost of running the farm we may need to step back in the future as it is a great expense dependent on outside funding.
    Expenses $67,110 · grants $70,000 · revenue $6,300
  • Our program Hermana Flor is our women's program for dealing with gendered violence, adverse experiences and showcasing the strength and importance of women in our community. . We recognized the role of women in preserving our cultural knowledge and traditions into our Sanctuary Gardens through teaching dance and embroidery. In addition, we began to revitalize our indigenous languages such as Zapoteco and Mixteco, using our culture to empower these women in their process of healing. We facilitate conversations on healing from trauma and gendered violence , empowering our elders to teach and share their experiences with the younger generation. The Hermana Flor group is about 25 women and children. The children have been learning traditional dance and embroidery from the elders. Accomplishment in 2023: We have learned a total of 2 dances traditional dances which we do performances for the community. Flor de Pina and Flor Munidita. we started a second group for dance therapy, Baile Terapia, which is a mix of Zumba and Cumbia. This one is much faster paced and used as exercise and stress relief for the community. The art and cultural aspects have been really exposed in the broader community increasing diversity here. We presented public zumba classes at local events as well as encouraged the younger members to have differing lebvels of ballet folcorico, elementray students highschool and elders. In 2025 we reduced activities of Hermana Flor however we did create the first spanish language doula program helping new mothers as we don't have accessible doctors for maternal care.
    Expenses $12,200 · grants $12,200
  • Our Program Know your Rights is our community empowerment and problem solving program. We hold community meeting to determine community needs and offer a space to develop solutions for the broader community. it is also how we develop new programs. We share community resources to the Latinx and Indigenous relatives from the south. We have given out 1200 covid tests as well as information in Spanish on the virus in 2022. Resources include how to access medical services, access to food pantries, and direction for community members who wish to develop trade skills. We gathered resources throughout Humboldt and translated them to Spanish. It is also the platform for the community to understand their rights as immigrants in the United States. We have good traffic on social media for upcoming community events. All together we probably reached and shared these resources to over 3000 families in 2022. Accomplishment in 2023: We have expanded this program to include youth Programming to provide resources on mental health, the importance of our culture and destigmatize topics among the youth. Its opening a new direction for the organization as a resource for families and community. Once the Youth program becomes self-sufficient, independent we will break it off into its own program.Weve been focusing a lot on know your rights in 2025 providing opportunities for people to understand their rights as immigrants and getting people to who can help them. This program has become a keystone of our programming this year. We combined our youth programming into here as well during 2025
    Expenses $118,811 · grants $387,341
  • Our Other largest program is Administration and has taken large steps in 2025. We had initially had no admin program as our organization was very small. This year we have dedicated staff and our new office so the expenses are much larger than before
