Mission

Our mission is to build stronger, more equitable communities by closing achievement, opportunity, and income gaps through education, youth development, family support, economic empowerment, and community development. We believe every child and family deserves access to the opportunities, relationships, and resources needed to thrive, regardless of their zip codes. Through prevention-focused, community-based programs, we help young people build academic success, leadership skills, resilience, and pathways to lifelong opportunity while strengthening families and creating healthier, safer communities across Los Angeles County.

Program accomplishments

  • Bridges Summer STEAM Academy is a five-week summer enrichment program serving students entering grades 6 through 12. The program was created to give students a safe and supportive place to strengthen their academic skills, build confidence, and prepare for the upcoming school year while continuing to grow socially and emotionally. A key part of the Academy is the CSU Summer Algebra Institute for students entering grades 6 through 10. Through focused math instruction and hands-on learning, students strengthen foundational math skills, develop effective learning and problem-solving strategies, and prepare for Algebra and Geometry. Just as importantly, we work to help students become more confident in their abilities and see themselves as capable learners. The Academy goes beyond academics. Students are exposed to STEAM activities, college and career opportunities, and experiences that encourage teamwork, creativity, leadership, communication, and positive relationships with their peers. We intentionally create an environment where students are encouraged to ask questions, try new things, learn from their mistakes, and begin thinking about what is possible for their future. During 2025, approximately 90 students participated in the Summer STEAM Academy. For Bridges CEDC, the impact of the program is not only about what students learn during five weeks of summer. It is also about helping young people return to school with greater confidence, stronger academic foundations, and the encouragement to continue working toward their educational and future goals.

  • After School at Bridges provides academic and social support to students in grades 1 through 12 throughout the school year. The program primarily serves children and youth from Carson and surrounding communities within Los Angeles County, providing a safe and supportive place where students can receive the additional help, encouragement, and individual attention they may need to succeed in school. Students receive homework assistance, tutoring, academic advising, test preparation, and other educational support based on their individual needs. Because we recognize that academic success is connected to a student's overall well-being, the program also provides opportunities for students to build positive relationships, strengthen communication and social skills, and develop greater confidence in themselves as learners. After School at Bridges is also a place where students know they can come for help. Our goal is not simply to help a student complete an assignment or prepare for a test, but to provide consistent support throughout the school year that encourages students to take greater responsibility for their learning, work through academic challenges, and continue moving toward their educational goals. During 2025, more than 60 students participated in After School at Bridges. Through this program, Bridges CEDC continued to provide students and families with a dependable source of academic assistance, encouragement, and connection during the school year, helping young people build the skills, confidence, and support they need to continue progressing in school.

  • Bridges Community Resources Hub provides practical assistance and resources to families in Carson and surrounding underserved communities. Through the Hub, we help families meet everyday needs by providing food, household essentials, school supplies, hygiene kits, and other resources that can help ease some of the financial pressures families may be experiencing. Our goal is to make resources accessible in a welcoming and respectful environment where families can receive support with dignity. Throughout the year, Bridges works with community partners, donors, and volunteers to gather and distribute needed items and connect families with resources that support the well-being of their households. The Community Resources Hub also includes community outreach activities that bring families, service providers, and community partners together. Through our community outreach fair and other resource distributions, families have opportunities to learn about available services, receive needed supplies, and make connections to additional support within the community. During 2025, Bridges Community Resources Hub served more than 400 families, representing approximately 850 individuals. Through this work, Bridges CEDC continued to respond to immediate needs while strengthening connections with families and helping ensure that those we serve know they have a community resource they can turn to when they need support.
