We supported the Huni Kuin people of the Rio Humaita territory, State of Acre, Brazil, to secure a land of 50,659 acres adjacent to their demarcated territory that were under imminent threat. This property which represents 3,5 times the size of Manhattan is located in the heart of the largest contiguous territories of Uncontacted Communities in the world, who safeguard the most biodiverse areas on Earth. b. Local Governance: Throughout this process, MOTA also offered critical support to the Huni Kuin Federation (FEPHAC), Vakaynu Cooperative, Associao Dos Seringueros Kaxinawa Do Rio Jordao, and Associao Do Povo Inu Kuito strengthen their governance and administrative capacity, gaining greater autonomy.c. Monitoring: We continued monitoring threats to Indigenous territories in the State of Acre, Brazil, and shared these with Indigenous leaders.d. Project development: We developed a comprehensive framework of work for this pillar, establishing project objectives and components. We also refined project activities and designed a financial and fundraising strategy. e. Film production: We completed a short documentary The people of the blue bird about our pilot land preservation project with the Shanenawa People.Expenses $337,463
- Form 990 Part III Line 4a - Program Service AccomplishmentsWater ProgramWe completed the construction of the first pilot Water Tower in Mibaya, Praia do Carapan Region, State of Acre, Brazil serving over 100 people. These facilities integrate water storage and wastewater management while preserving traditional community gathering spaces for water-related activities such as fetching, washing, and bathing. The Water Towers complement previously built solar-powered wells, ensuring a continuous supply of clean water. Water is stored in stainless steel tanks and distributed to sinks and showers. Gray water from washing and bathing undergoes natural filtration through a series of charcoal-based and organic material filters, supported by water-absorbent plants. Additionally, we developed monitoring guidelines for the Water Towers and a behavioral change strategy for the overall Water Program. We also conducted water sampling from previously built wells for analysis in a certified laboratory.Expenses $118,190
- Form 990 Part III Line 4b - Program Service AccomplishmentsHealthAcre Climate Disaster Relief Fund: Through this initiative, we supported 2,238 people in the aftermath of extreme weather events that hit the State of Acre, Brazil. The Fund was deployed in 5 Indigenous Demarcated Territories in the State of Acre reaching the Huni Kuin, Yawanawa, Noke Koi, Inu Kui Ni, and Nawa Peoples in 19 villages. Additionally, we helped with the repair of two community centers that had been severely damaged after the floods of late 2023 - early 2024: in the village of Mutum in the Rio Gregorio territory, we successfully rebuilt a bridge leading to the community center, and in the village of Lago Lindo we rebuilt the roof of the community center that had been taken down. Community centers play a key role in the life of Indigenous communities. This is the place where they get together for communal activities, including decision-making and planification, preparing food, weaving and schooling.b.
