Mission

Estelitas Library is a BIPOC-led community and organizing hub that creates liberatory and self-determined programming dedicated to critical knowledge of history, self, and social justice.

990 for the year ended June 30, 2024

Program accomplishments

  • ESTELITAS LIBRARY is a community library and online bookstore with books focused on social justice, ethnic studies, and liberation movements. We invite everyone to use our library space as a community center to cozy up with a book, learn about social justice, and connect with other likeminded people. This year we added to the space by constructing a bathroom and storage area, and partnered with the City of Seattle to place electric car chargers outside.
    Expenses $133,953 · grants $3,870 · revenue $53,690
  • FREEDOM HOUSE AND CULTURAL CENTER - We have secured a purchase agreement for an 8,000 square foot site in Seattles Beacon Hill neighborhood where the Freedom House and Cultural Center will be a bustling cultural hub for our community and a direct response to the ongoing gentrification of Beacon Hill and the displacement of Black and Brown communities in the City of Seattle. We are currently running a capital campaign and environmental restoration work on the site.
    Expenses $220,653 · revenue $285,581
  • BLACK PANTHER PARTY NEWSPAPER DIGITAL ARCHIVE - Estelitas Library hosts one of the largest collections of Black Panther newspapers in the world, with 400+ papers spanning the duration of the publications lifespan. We are building a community archive for this collection, which includes a free six-part workshop series that teaches Black and Brown community about oral history and memory work, and storytelling as a form of resistance.0
