Mission
TO PROVIDE OPPORTUNITIES FOR PERSONALIZED MUSIC INSTRUCTION TO STUDENTS WITH LIMITED FINANCIAL RESOURCES, WITH A PRIMARY FOCUS ON STUDENTS AT TITLE 1 SCHOOLS.
Program accomplishments
- THE MUSIC LESSONS PROJECT HELPS CLOSE AN OPPORTUNITY GAP BY PROVIDING LESSONS FOR COMMITTED STUDENTS WITH LIMITED FINANCIAL RESOURCES AT TITLE I SCHOOLS IN THE SALEM-KEIZER SCHOOL DISTRICT. MIDDLE SCHOOL INSTRUCTION WAS GIVEN PRIMARILY IN GROUPS AND MOST HIGH SCHOOL WAS GIVEN INDIVIDUALLY. LESSONS USUALLY BEGAN EARLY IN THE FALL AND MORE WEEKS OF INSTRUCTION WERE GIVEN THAN EVER WITH THE GROWTH COMING BY OFFERING MORE LESSON WEEKS FOR THE SAME STUDENTS, WHICH GIVES DEEPER LEARNING AND IS A KEY GOAL. MUSIC DIRECTORS REPORT SIGNIFICANT SKILL GROWTH, CONFIDENCE BUILDING, AND POSITIVE IMPACT ON PERSONAL SENSE OF SELF FOR THE PARTICIPATING 397 STUDENTS. THE PROJECT SUPPORTED 1,684 LESSON HOURS, FOR AROUND 2,853 LESSON SESSIONS AT CLAGGETT CREEK, HOUCK, LESLIE, PARRISH, STEPHENS, AND WALDO MIDDLE SCHOOLS AND AT MCKAY AND NORTH SALEM HIGH SCHOOLS. THIS VOICE, STRINGS, WOODWINDS, BRASS, AND PERCUSSION INSTRUCTION WAS GIVEN ONSITE FOR STUDENTS ENROLLED IN BAND, ORCHESTRA, AND CHOIR CLASSES. WE RAISED MONEY THIS FY YEAR TO FUND 25-26 LESSONS IN EIGHT SCHOOLS. THESE FUNDS, ALONG WITH ANY BALANCE, CAN FUND AROUND 1,900 LESSON HOURS.Expenses $101,040
