Mission

We work directly with refugee families to provide them with the necessary services, resources, and community support to bolster their resilience, achieve self-sufficiency and thrive in their new homes. We use the UNHCR definition of a refugee: "A refugee is someone who has been forced to flee his or her country because of persecution, war or violence."

Program accomplishments

  • Resettlement. We provide financial and non-financial support to newly arrived refugees and to those already here. The financial support includes rent, furnishings, other household goods, personal hygiene, education, transportation, utilities, internet, phone, childcare, and other living expenses. In 2025, we helped resettle 3 new families and provided assistance to an additional 18 existing families.
    Expenses $234,671 · grants $234,671
  • Road to Independence (R2I) Grants. We provide grants directly to individual refugees and refugee families who have been in the U.S. for some time, typically more than one year. Grants (typically up to ~ $1,200) are intended to help a family or individual get over a financial hurdle or get a step up to help them thrive on their path to independence. Generally, recipients are no longer being assisted financially by another organization or agency, and the grants typically help with classes, childcare, training, uniforms, household supplies or medication, school supplies, emergency rent, moving expenses etc. In 2025, we awarded 38 grants.
    Expenses $37,865 · grants $37,865
  • Food & Housing Insecurity Grants. We provide grants of $100 to $500 per family or individual that specifically target the food and housing insecurity or our refugee families. Some grants are made directly to refugee families, but the bulk of the grants are given to families that are identified by partner community organizations, who handle the distribution of the funds, and report the amounts and recipient names back to us.
    Expenses $15,459 · grants $15,459
  • Legal Grants. We provide grants that help refugee families pay for legal representation in their cases for asylum, changes in immigration status, responding to ICE and other governmental agencies. In 2025, we provided grants to 11 families.
    Expenses $25,456 · grants $25,456
