Program accomplishments

  • FOUNDED IN 1988, FAMILY PROMISE IS A NATIONWIDE PROGRAM THAT IS DEDICATED TO SERVING FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN WHO ARE HOMELESS OR AT RISK OF HOMELESSNESS. LOCAL AFFILIATES ORGANIZE CONGREGATIONS, CIVIC ORGANIZATIONS, SOCIAL SERVICE AGENCIES AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS INTO VOLUNTEER COALITIONS. THE FAMILY PROMISE OF TUALATIN VALLEY (THE ORGANIZATION), AN AFFILIATE OF THE NATIONWIDE PROGRAM, WAS FORMED AS A SEPARATE AND INDEPENDENT NOT-FOR-PROFIT ORGANIZATION IN OCTOBER, 2016 AND OPENED ITS DOORS TO SERVING FAMILIES EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS IN MARCH, 2019. FAMILY PROMISE OF TUALATIN VALLEY SERVES FAMILIES AND ADULTS EXPERIENCING HOUSELESSNESS IN WASHINGTON COUNTY. OUR EXTENSIVE NETWORK OF CIVIC, BUSINESS AND RELIGIOUS ORGANIZATIONS HELP US TO PROVIDE ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES, LIFE SKILLS TRAININGS, MEALS, AND A SUPPORTIVE COMMUNITY FOR OUR GUESTS EVERY DAY OF THE YEAR.EMERGENCY SHELTER: FPTV PROVIDES SHELTER, CASE MANAGEMENT, FOOD, AND HOUSING NAVIGATION FOR FOLKS EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS. WE WORK ONE-ON-ONE WITH GUESTS TO BUILD ON THEIR EXISTING STRENGTHS AND MAKE AN INDIVIDUALIZED PLAN TO ACHIEVE SUSTAINABLE HOUSING. ADDITIONALLY, WHILE IN SHELTER GUESTS HAVE ACCESS TO OUT CLOTHING CLOSET, FOOD PANTRY AND HOT MEAL SERVICE, ENSURING BASIC NEEDS ARE MET WHILE FAMILIES WORK TOWARDS STABILITY. WE ALSO PROVIDE CONNECTIONS TO HEALTHCARE, TRANSPORTATION, EMPLOYMENT AND HOST ONSITE ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES FOR KIDS. HOUSING STABILIZATION: FOR HOUSEHOLDS COMING OUT OF AN EPISODE OF HOMELESSNESS, THIS PROGRAM PROVIDES LINKAGES TO EMPLOYMENT, HEALTHCARE AND OTHER SERVICES TO PREVENT REOCCURRENCE AND CREATE LONGER-TERM SELF-SUFFICIENCY. THESE ONGOING SERVICES ASSIST HOUSEHOLDS TO RETAIN THEIR HOUSING AND BE GOOD TENANTS AND NEIGHBORS. THIS CAN INCLUDE TAPERING HOUSEHOLDS OFF THE FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE OVER TIME TILL THEY ARE PAYING 100% OF THE RENT.PREVENTION AND DIVERSION: FOR HOUSEHOLDS FACING EVICTION WE HAVE A CASE MANAGER WHO PROVIDES LANDLORD MEDIATION AS WELL AS RENTAL AND UTILITY ASSISTANCE TO KEEP THEM HOUSED. THE COST OF A SINGLE INTERVENTION TO KEEP A FAMILY IN THEIR HOME IS SIGNIFICANTLY LESS THAN THE COST OF REHOUSING THEM. IN ADDITION TO THE FINANCIAL COST, HOUSING DESTABILIZATION CAN BE TRAUMATIC FOR CHILDREN AND ADULTS, NEGATIVELY IMPACTING BOTH PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH.
