Program accomplishments

  • The Utah Afterschool Network (UAN) advanced its mission to ensure all Utah children have access to safe, high-quality afterschool and summer programs during a year marked by funding uncertainty and growing demand. Serving as a statewide backbone organization, UAN supported more than 175 afterschool programs reaching over 16,700 students through quality improvement systems, professional learning, school-day alignment, and data infrastructure. Despite challenges at the federal level, bipartisan advocacy and strong statewide partnerships helped reinforce the essential role afterschool programs play in supporting youth, families, and Utah's workforce. Throughout the year, UAN strengthened program quality through coaching, observations, and assessment tools, with a majority of participating sites demonstrating measurable improvements. Professional learning efforts reached thousands of educators through statewide conferences, regional events, eLearning, and targeted initiatives focused on well-being, leadership, and social-emotional learning. UAN also expanded STEM and entrepreneurship opportunities, impacting more than 15,000 youth and increasing access to hands-on learning through initiatives like Million Girls Moonshot, AmeriCorps STEM placements, and youth-led business cohorts. UAN's policy and systems work continued to amplify the field's voice and capacity. Advocacy efforts helped secure the release of federal 21st Century Community Learning Center funds and supported a $500,000 state appropriation for regional programming. At the same time, UAN's Salesforce-based data system enabled programs statewide to collect and report meaningful data on more than 7,200 youth, strengthening accountability and storytelling across the field. Together, these efforts reflect a year of resilience, collaboration, and progress toward a stronger afterschool ecosystem in Utah.
