Mission
TO HELP LOW-INCOME CLIENTS ACCESS THE CIVIL JUSTICE SYSTEM BY PROVIDING VOLUNTEER ATTORNEYS WHO DONATE FREE LEGAL ADVICE AND REPRESENTATION, AND BY SUPPORTING AND TRAINING THOSE ATTORNEYS.
Program accomplishments
- DURING 2024, 2930 CITIZENS OF TRAVIS, HAYS, WILLIAMSON, AND BASTROP COUNTIES RECEIVED LEGAL ASSISTANCE THROUGH VLS. OVER 400 ATTORNEY VOLUNTEERS DONATED APPROXIMATELY 6,900 OF PRO BONO SERVICE. VLS HELD 97 LEGAL ADVICE AND INTAKE CLINICS WHICH RESULTED IN 483 PRO BONO CASES OPENED. OF THE 485 PRO BONO CASES CLOSED LAST YEAR, APPROXIMATELY 15 PERCENT INVOLVED FAMILY LAW, 48 PERCENT RELATED TO HOUSING MATTERS, 20 PERCENT RELATING TO CONSUMER LAW, AND 1 PERCENT RELATED TO INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS. THE REMAINING 16 PERCENT OF CASES INCLUDED A COMBINATION OF EMPLOYMENT AND INCOME MATTERS AND HEALTH AND EDUCATION ISSUES.Expenses $768,295 · revenue $1,938
