Mission
THE MISSION OF SCAJ IS TO PROTECT THE RIGHTS OF THE INDIVIDUAL; TO SEEK JUSTICE THROUGH OPEN AND FAIR COURTROOMS; TO RESIST UNJUST LAWS; TO SUPPORT POLICIES THAT HOLD WRONGDOERS ACCOUNTABLE; TO STRENGTHEN THE JUSTICE SYSTEM THROUGH EDUCATION AND ACTION; AND TO UPHOLD THE HIGHEST STANDARDS OF ETHICAL CONDUCT AND INTEGRITY IN THE LEGAL PROFESSION.
Program accomplishments
- ANNUAL CONVENTION PROVIDES CONTINUING EDUCATION AND INFORMATION EXCHANGES FOR MEMBERS. ANNUAL TORTS SEMINAR CONVEYS NEW METHODS OF PRESENTING CASES AND NEW THEORIES OF LIABILITY.
- THE "SC TRIAL LAWYER" PUBLICATION CONTAINS ARTICLES OF PRACTICAL BENEFIT TO INSURE PLAINTIFF ADJUDICATION OF DISPUTES.
- SOUTH CAROLINA ASSOCIATION FOR JUSTICE PROVIDES A WIDE ARRAY OF MEMBER SERVICES TO ITS DIVERSE MEMBERSHIP INCLUDING: ASSOCIATION OFFICERS, STAFF AND CONTRACT PERSONNEL MEET WITH MEMBERS IN SEVERAL AREAS OF THE STATE ANNUALLY FOR MEMBERSHIP MEETINGS; THE AMICUS CURIAE COMMITTEE FILES BRIEFS WITH THE APPELLATE COURT REGARDING CASES OF MERIT IN AREAS OF INTEREST TO THE TRIAL BAR; THE SCAJ COORDINATES A DAY-TO-DAY LEGISLATIVE ADVOCACY PROGRAM WITH MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY BY UTILIZING THE TALENTS OF MEMBERS AND PROFESSIONAL ON-STAFF AND CONTRACT LOBBYISTS.
