Mission
Provide educational programs for children. Preserve affordable housing. Provide transitional housing to homeless families to enable them to become self-sufficient.
Program accomplishments
- The Housing Program consists of transitional and affordable housing units provided to homeless and low income families. The program includes 45 apartments to provide below market rental rates to residents in the City of Alexandria. During 2025, 5 apartments were designated for housing homeless families coming from shelters in Alexandria. These families pay 30% of their income as a program fee. The transitional program is a two-year program designed to provide education, counseling, job placement, and financial and budget mentoring to stabilize the families so they will be able to move into their own housing when they leave the program.Expenses $850,661
- The Youth Education program provides educational programs for youths living in the neighborhood and in the transitional housing apartments. The youth education program is highly academic, mirroring the curriculums being presented in the local schools. It is designed to create an atomosphere of success for the low income, minority and homeless children and to prevent them from homelessness in the future. The adult education component focuses on teaching English and computer literacy skills.Expenses $558,181
