Program accomplishments

  • Annual Adult Conference and Curriculum Fair - C and CF is used to provide and promote the benefits of home education to the public - parents considering or investigating home education as alternative to other forms of education for their families, and encourage and supports families currently home educating. Attendance typically ranges from 200-500 families. Families can review and purchase curriculum, other educational material, hear nationally known and local speakers, attend workshops on topics to enhance their efforts in educating their children. It is a parent education/training experience. For families registered for the C&CF, the NCHEA conducts child and teen conferences concurrently with/during the C and CF, which facilitates parents being able to attend the C and CF. The children's conference is attended by100+ children, the teen conference by 35+ teens.
  • Newsletter, legislative alerts, legislative day, website, Facebook: Newsletters and/or alerts are sent to 250+member families approximately four times a year. During an election year, the unaltered results of a survey questionnaire sent to candidates for public office for their response or position on the subjects of home education and parental rights is sent to member families. The NCHEA does not endorse political candidates. Legislative alerts provide information on proposed legislation, both state and federal, and potential rules changes by the Nebraska Department of Education that impact the ability or rights of parents to home educate and/or impact parental rights in their decisions directing their family and/or education options.
  • Legislative Day is held at the state capital and is an event with the purpose of educating parents and children on the state legislative process. Families are encouraged to meet their state senator and his staff.
