Mission

Yoga For All Movement is on a mission to make the healing practices of yoga and mindfulness truly accessible for all beings without exception. We do this by providing trauma-informed classes that are free to the public, as well as private classes with community partners that serve populations that have historically not been served by the wellness industry. Founded in 2016, YFAMs origins were sharing yoga with incarcerated individualsnot only for the health of their bodies but also to reduce the enormous impact of institutionalization. Since then, YFAM has expanded itsoutreach and vision. We are now a team of more than 40 teachers, offering yoga and mindfulness to individuals in recovery from substance abuse, youth in schools, youth and adults experiencing incarceration, survivors of domestic violence, isolated seniors, people with mental health needs, the LGBTQIA+ community, people with lower incomes, and more.

Program accomplishments

  • Fee For Service Yoga: We provide 25 weekly trauma-sensitive yoga and mindfulness classes in Santa Cruz County for people experiencing significant challenges in theirlives. These private classes take place at our community partner organizations, which include local jails, mental health facilities, recovery centers, alternative education schools, and senior centers. Periodically, we also have the opportunity to offer classes and workshops to the organizational staff and caregiversthe people who work directly and regularly with the vulnerable populations we serveso they can feel resourced and supported in the important work they do.In 2025, we offered 815 classes to 6,709 students.
    Expenses $86,923
  • Our approach has been to work collaboratively with the communities we serve through yoga and mindfulness. Increasing ones positive self-regard can support an individuals motivation to change and, as a result, change their circumstances. Systems change cannot happen outside the individuals that are most affected. When one feels confident in advocating for themselves, increasing their social support, and effectively communicating their needs, paradigm shifts become possible. We know that holistic healing practices are not enough for personal transformation, but they are foundational to support people on their path toward agency and empowerment. Alternatively, a lack of access to holistic health approaches will only keep the wellness industry exclusive to the privileged few.In 2025, we taught 815 classes to 6,709 students through our partnerships with Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office, Santa Cruz County of Education, Santa Cruz County Behavioral Health,Watsonville Senior Center, Scotts Valley Senior Center, Harbor High School, Front St. Inc., Encompass, and London Nelson Community Center. We continue to serve students of all ages experiencing incarceration, experiencing houselessness, with mental health challenges, in recovery from substance misuse, and more.
    Expenses $15,846
  • Education and Advocacy: YFAM invests in training teachers in accessible and trauma-sensitive yoga methods. In 2025, we had trainings at no cost to YFAM teachers in yoga for mental health and substance use disorders, decolonization of yoga, accessible yoga practices, nervous system regulation, and working with youth and meeting common behavioral issues with compassion. We became the fiscal sponsors for two organizations doing impactful social justice work within our community. Sapphire Yoga Collective is doing powerful work building inclusive yoga spaces for people identifying as LGBTQIA+ and SC Equity Collab focuses on fostering transformational justice and doing embodied anti-racism work within our community through collaborative art and community organizing.
    Expenses $15,846
