Mission
We provide free preschool programming for 4-year-old children from low-income families. Families qualify for enrollment based primarily on family income, using the federal poverty level guidelines, which include household size as a measure of ability to pay. If applications exceed available openings, family income and child needs are considered. Children at risk for later school failure based on recognized criteria such as pre-mature birth, single-parent household, chronic illness, and parental incarceration are given priority consideration.
Program accomplishments
- This is an overall summary of the Isabella Child Development Center Preschool. We provide a free preschool program for 4-year-old children from low-income families. The primary goal is to provide a developmentally appropriate preschool experience that prepares children for success in Kindergarten. A school-day program that meets 4 days per week, 8:30am to 3:30pm, is offered for up to 15, 4-year-old children the year prior to kindergarten entry. This is a change from our prior year where we served 3- and 4-year-old children in a 1/2 day program. Needs in our community have changed and a full-day (school-day) program fills a greater need in our service area. The program begins in early September and runs through mid-May and mirrors the calendar of the local school district. Developmental assessments are used at the beginning of the school year to assess individual child needs and as a benchmark for progress throughout the year. All children exhibit growth over the year, with notable progress in social-emotional development and language skills. Over 80% of expenses are for highly qualified staff to lead our early childhood program. The remaining expenses are related to early childhood learning materials, professional development of staff, ensuring safe learning spaces indoors and outside, and general administrative expenses to operate a state-licensed early childhood facility and program. Expenses for qualified teachers, a director, and a classroom assistant totaled $78,417 for the 24-25 school year.Expenses $78,417
- We provide a school-day educational program for up to 15, 4-year-old children, 4 days per week from September through May. Children attend from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm. For the 24-25 year, we were only able to enroll 10 4-year-olds due to a late transition to full-day programming. Demand for 1/2 day programming in the local area has declined considerably. To meet the needs of children in our service area (primarily Isabella County) we transitioned from serving 3- and 4-year-olds to only serving 4-year-olds the year prior to their entrance into Kindergarten. The primary service provided is a high-quality early education experience that focuses on helping children learn to play and work in a group setting. Fostering self-help skills, self-regulation behaviors, emotional management, and cognitive skills strengthening are all integral to the program. While our primary focus is on the children enrolled, family and parent involvement are also important and a focus of our programming. Expenses beyond staff salaries to offer a full-day early childhood program from September through mid-May totaled $17,919.Expenses $17,919
