Program accomplishments

  • Insure the Uninsured Project (ITUP) was established in 1996. The mission of ITUP is to promote innovative and workable policy solutions that expand health care access and improve the health of all Californians. For over twenty-five years, Insure the Uninsured Project (ITUP) has been Californias big tent, neutral health policy convener and a health ecosystem backbone organization. Through our in-person and virtual convenings, and our high-level fact sheets, policy forums, and in-depth briefs, we bring together unique stakeholders both health policy experts and novices in ways others cannot and do not. We create connections across multiple health sectors, geographies, health policy areas, and levels of government, all in furtherance of achieving universal health care coverage and meaningful access for all Californians. Our audience includes a network of over 4,000 California elected and appointed officials, Legislative and Executive Branch staff, state and local consumer advocates, counties, labor, business, health plans, health providers (clinics, hospitals, and behavioral health practitioners), and community-based organizations.ITUP is funded primarily by grants from foundations and nonprofit organizations with core funding from The California Endowment, The California Wellness Foundation, and the California Health Care Foundation. ITUP also receives specific project-based contracts.ITUP received nonprofit status on September 15, 2011, made retroactive to December 27, 2010.
