Mission
CONSERVING THE BIODIVERSITY OF PANAMA'S MAMONI VALLEY, A CRITICAL BIOLOGICAL CORRIDOR CONNECTING NORTH AND SOUTH AMERICA, AND ONE OF THE WORLD'S TOP 36 BIODIVERSITY HOTSPOTS. MVP WORKS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH LOCAL COMMUNITIES TO FIGHT ILLEGAL LOGGING, HUNTING, MINING, ETC., AND HAS FOCUSED ON CONSERVING LAND, PROMOTING REFORESTATION, AND PROTECTING THE VALLEY'S BIODIVERSITY.
Program accomplishments
- CONSERVATION PROGRAM:MAMONI VALLEY PRESERVE IMPLEMENTS A LANDSCAPE-SCALE CONSERVATION PROGRAM FOCUSED ON PROTECTING RAINFOREST HABITAT, SUPPORTING LOCAL COMMUNITIES, AND ADVANCING SCIENCE-BASED STEWARDSHIP WITHIN THE MAMONI VALLEY. THROUGH THE MAMONI GUARDIANS PROGRAM, LOCALLY EMPLOYED COMMUNITY MEMBERS CONDUCT REGULAR PATROLS ACROSS PROTECTED LANDS, HELPING REDUCE ILLEGAL ACTIVITIES AND SAFEGUARD HABITAT FOR MORE THAN 1,600 DOCUMENTED SPECIES. THE CONSERVATION PROGRAM ALSO INCLUDES SUSTAINABLE LIVELIHOOD INITIATIVES DESIGNED TO REDUCE PRESSURE ON FORESTS. IN 2025, THE ORGANIZATION IMPLEMENTED THE "MIEL EN MADRONO" COMMUNITY APICULTURE PROGRAM, PROVIDING EQUIPMENT, TRAINING, AND TECHNICAL SUPPORT TO LOCAL PARTICIPANTS. THE ORGANIZATION ALSO SUPPORTS COMMUNITY ACCESS TO LAND FOR SUSTAINABLE CULTIVATION THROUGH ITS TIERRA VIVA PROGRAM, PROMOTING ENVIRONMENTALLY RESPONSIBLE AGRICULTURAL PRACTICES AND IMPROVING FOOD SECURITY. IN ADDITION, MAMONI VALLEY PRESERVE SUPPORTS BIODIVERSITY MONITORING AND SCIENTIFIC COLLABORATION TO INFORM CONSERVATION MANAGEMENT AND PROTECT A CRITICAL BIOLOGICAL CORRIDOR CONNECTING NORTH AND SOUTH AMERICA. THESE COMBINED EFFORTS STRENGTHEN LONG-TERM PROTECTION OF RAINFOREST ECOSYSTEMS WHILE SUPPORTING LOCAL STEWARDSHIP AND CONSERVATION-BASED LIVELIHOODS.Expenses $272,052
