Program accomplishments

  • PAWS cares for lost, abandoned and abused animals and finds them new homes with responsible owners. PAWS also provides low cost spay and neuter services, a pet food pantry, and community education. During 2025 PAWS adopted out 331pets. PAWS distributed 5,045 pounds of pet food to community members in need during 2025. PAWS provides community education by hosting school classes, going on the radio, and sharing educational information on social media. When discussing no kill, the numbers matter. Every life is a number and every life counts. There are two common ways to determine if a shelter or resue is no kill: save rate and human population benchmark. As a No Kill Animal Shelter, PAWS for Grays Harbor had a 98% save rate in 2025. To be considered no kill, an organization must have a Human Population Benchmark (HPB) of no more than 2 animals per every 1,000 people yearly. The HPB is determined by the ratio of animals "Without Live Outcomes" yearly divided by the number of 1,000 people in the community population. Our 2025 HPB was .065 per 1,000.
