Mission

AHEAD Energy is focused on R&D, development and demonstration of efficient, resilient, fuel-flexible microgrid solutions. AHEAD was founded in 1988 to consult and implement energy systems in off-grid, underserved areas, particularly in Africa. We now have a more global focus, and our vision can also be applied to remote areas of the USA and other developed countries. AHEAD participates in the operation of a unique, multi-user facility in Rochester, NY, which is a Start Up NY facility affiliated with Alfred University.

990 for the year ended May 31, 2025

Program accomplishments

  • Continued to work with new landlord to promote the Metro Park facility as an economic development asset in the Rochester, NY area for energy-related R&D, system integration, and commercialization. Using assets to form the basis of a not-for-profit financing solution, which is being planned to support projects in schools, churches, low-income housing and similar facilities.
    Expenses $15,573 · revenue $13,286
  • Supported engineering study of Metro Park site for a proposed a hybrid geothermal HVAC upgrade, including multi-source heat pumps and thermal energy storage.
    Expenses $3,663
  • Member and board participation in the Ammonia Energy Association, a group which is supporting the use of ammonia as a carbon-free energy carrier made from natural gas, coal, or other inputs. Ammonia stores and handles like propane, and is an attractive future energy carrier, particular for remote areas without access to pipeline natural gas or grid electricity. This can be very attractive for remote areas, such as areas of Alaska, where fly-in diesel fuel is the current fuel source for local electric power generation.
    Expenses $2,271
