Mellon Foundation, the William Talbott Hillman Foundation, the Silicon Valley Community Foundation, the Congregation of St. Joseph of Peace, the Greene Family Foundation, Northern Trust Charitable at the Chicago Community Trust, PayPal Fung Giving, Documentary Educational Resources, the American Online Giving Foundation, and several individual donors.Ayiti Demen supports programs in Haiti through the Foundation for Knowledge and Liberty (FOKAL), Le Centre dArt, and Basketball to Uplift the Youth (Basktbl pou Ankadre Lajens), and advances narrative change through a local media and film company. Program accomplishments

  • Human & Economic Development in HaitiOur Human & Economic Development program is organized into four pillars: sustainable development, arts and culture, youth and education, and narrative change. The Human & Economic Development program is essential because it builds long-term partnership by linking economic opportunity with cultural expression and community-led solutions. By investing in youth, farmers, and local storytellers, the program strengthens social capital, fosters sustainable livelihoods, and amplifies Haitian voices in national and international conversations.Sustainable DevelopmentDuring this fiscal year, the organization strengthened lending capacity within ten smallholder agricultural cooperatives that collectively operate 47 Mutuals of Solidarity, providing both male and female farmers with opportunities for communal savings and credit access. These mutual aid societies serve as critical financial infrastructure for agricultural producers who lack access to traditional banking services, enabling them to invest in crops, and household needs while building economic resilience. The organization also contributed to the construction of a community center located in Jrmie as part of FOKALs plan to build 10 community centers, establishing secure facilities that serve as gathering places for education, skills training, and community engagement. These centers function as essential emergency shelters and coordination hubs during hurricanes, which frequently impact Haiti's vulnerable coastal and agricultural regions. Additionally, the organization provided support to ANATRAF, Haiti's primary association of fruit processing enterprises via FOKAL, demonstrating continued support for locally led economic development programs and value-chain strengthening initiatives within the agricultural sector.Art and CultureAyiti Demen allocated a portion of the Hillman grant to the restoration of several important works damaged during the 2010 earthquake. This includes paintings by renowned Haitian masters such as Prfte Duffaut, Jasmin Joseph, and Philom Obin. These restored pieces now serve as valuable assets for the Arts Center, preserving and promoting Haitian art. A part of the funding was also allocated to mark the 80th anniversary of the institution with the production of the exhibition "80 Years of the Creation of the Art Center", accompanied by a catalog showcasing Haitian artistic creation from 1944 to today. However, the exhibition has been rescheduled for 2025 due to ongoing security concerns. Ayiti Demen is also working with Le Centre dArt and Caribbean Culture Fund to support artists and creation in the Caribbean via a grant from the Mellon Foundation. Additionally, the organization supported the Archival Restoration Project of Cap-Haitien, in the North of Haiti. Youth and EducationAs part of the Joint Leadership Initiative Project, the organization supported youth development initiatives through its partnership with Basketball to Uplift the Youth (BAL), which engaged more than a hundred young participants in educational and cultural programming including a book fair, career counseling sessions, and an arts workshop facilitated by prominent artist Shneider Lon Hilaire. The organization provided seed funding to six youth entrepreneurs for business plan implementation, fostering economic self-sufficiency and leadership skills development. BAL organized a community basketball tournament entitled "Basketball for Peace which reunited a hundred of young people. This initiative promoted youth engagement, conflict resolution, and community cohesion through athletic participation.Narrative ChangeThe organization advanced its mission to promote balanced media narratives regarding Haiti through grant partnerships. With support from the Wyncote Foundation, the organization enabled a Haitian media organization to expand its audience reach within the United States. The Green Family Foundation provided funding to facilitate the participation of a Haitian-produced film in U.S. film festival, increasing cultural visibility and cross-cultural understanding.
