Mission
The International Rescue Committee responds to the world's worst humanitarian crises and helps people whose lives and livelihoods are shattered by conflict and disaster to survive, recover, and gain control of their future.
Program accomplishments
- In Africa, the IRC worked in 20 countries to respond to new and ongoing crises in each region. In East Africa-Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, Sudan, South Sudan and Uganda-the IRC provided lifesaving aid in response to conflict, the continued war in Sudan and its impact across the region, and the effects of climate change, particularly severe drought. In West and Central Africa-Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Democratic Republic of Congo, Tanzania, Burkina Faso, Cote d'Ivoire, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Liberia and Sierra Leone- the IRC responded with critical services to some of the most acute and protracted humanitarian crises on the continent. In Libya, IRC continues to support protection and other key services to people migrating through the North African country, as well as for conflict-affected Libyans.
