Program accomplishments

  • Our Emergency Assistance Program responds to the needs of newly arrived individuals & family units as well as other individuals & families who are unable to pay rent due to illness or loss of work. A total of 93% of the money went to rent assistance. The other 7% was given for airfare, passport, and insurance bills. This year, the families that sought rental assistance presented greater challenges due to the immigration climate and their inability to work. Companies hired less and/or let employees go due to their undocumented status. Many were behind rent for several months and the partner organizations were also drained in funds due to the increased need. 41 families were served.
    Expenses $89,670 · grants $23,468
  • In December, we began our three month Mothers As Protagonistas program, serving 12 Latino mothers and 14 pre-school children. The program provides education and support for moms to learn the developmental stages of their children, skills to aid their learning in preparation for preschool and help them identify early interventions needed. Mothers attended a weekly parenting class with their children and individual virtual sessions to learn how to advocate for their childrens education. Also, English as a New Language classes (ENL) were provided weekly. The criteria for inclusion was income based. A monthly stipend was provided by a generous private donor.
    Expenses $58,704 · grants $28,849
  • English as a Second Language program provides instruction for students whose low educational level in their home country prevents them fom qualifying for state-run english class.
    Expenses $41,846
  • Financial and computer literacy programs.
