Mission
To work for the welfare of the teachers and school children of Port Washington, promote the general welfare of the school system, stimulate interest in professional ethics, to form a representative body on behalf of teachers, and to promote understanding and cooperation between teachers and the community.
Program accomplishments
- The Port Washington Teachers Association is a local Affiliate of New York State United Teachers and the American Federation of Teachers. Activities include collection of member dues, forwarding amounts to the NYS Union, negotiations with respect to labor contracts, scholarship donations, local educational issue campaigns, newsletter, educating members about NYS Union endorsements, membership meetings, conferences and workshops, other member benefits.
- The Port Washington Teachers Association Retired Educators Chapter contributes to a scholarship fund, holds and annual breakfast, luncheon, publishes a newsletter, holds trips,and attends conferences and conventions, supports state and national education issues, corresponds frequently with retiree and in-service members regarding important issues; there are 2 general membership meetings, and frequent contact with legislators.
