Statuses and IRS results
What each status means, acceptance, rejection and refiling.
What each filing status means
Draft, Ready to pay, Sending to the IRS, With the IRS, Accepted, Needs fixing, Delayed and Cannot be e-filed: what each status in your 990.tax account means and what to do.
How long does the IRS take?
We send your return within minutes of payment. The IRS usually answers within 24 hours, 2 to 3 days over weekends and holidays. California’s FTB answers in 1 to 2 business days.
Your return was accepted
When the IRS accepts, we email you and your account shows Accepted. Download the PDF of the return and keep it with the acceptance for your records.
Rejected: fix and refile
A rejected Form 990-N, 990-EZ or 8868 was not filed. The IRS names the rule it broke; fix that answer and refile, free. Refile within 10 days of the rejection to keep your original filing date.
Common IRS reject codes
The rejections small nonprofits see most: EIN and name mismatch, EIN not on the IRS exempt list, wrong year end, duplicate returns, Form 990 needed, and 8868 timing.
Emails we send about your return
Sent, accepted, rejected with reminders, California results and delays: the emails 990.tax sends, their subject lines and where they come from.
