Program accomplishments

  • The Hydromeda program is made up of 18 members working on a remotely operated vehicles (ROV) in underwater environments. The program has previously placed 3rd in the MateROV competition. The current objective for this program is to redesign an entirely new ROV and allow for the members working on the program to learn technical skills through a hands-on process.
  • The Galaxsea program is composed of a team of 15 and has held over 30 meetings over the year over designs for an autonomous surface vehicle. The Galaxsea program has also participated in an international competition called Roboboat, which tests vehicles and their ability to do coastal surveillance tasks. This year's program's current objective is to compete in the Roboboat competition again and to score higher than last time. A long-term goal of this program it its to innovate and design an autonomous vehicle that could place first in the Roboboat competition and to teach people in the program applicable engineering design cycles as well as design process.
  • The MiniFloat program is an introductory engineering program primarily for new members to build a foundation in the engineering process. The program is set as an internal competition, such that small teams are challenged to design and manufacture small vertical profiling devices in which they can gather oceanographic depth data. This challenges the members into learning about waterproofing, buoyancy, microcontrollers, power management, and programming. For the current state of the program, there exists 4 teams, with each team being composed of a minimum of 4 members. The long-term goal for this program is to allow future members of the organization to gain technical engineering skills and to slowly work their way up into more complex and complicated programs.
