Mission

The Progressive Work Institute's primary exempt purpose is to advance research, education, and applied practice focused on improving job quality, reducing burnout, and promoting sustainable, worker-centered work design. During the reporting period, the Institute conducted six-month pilot programs implementing the Progressive Work Model (PWM) with organizations globally. Program services included administering pre- and post-implementation surveys, conducting qualitative interviews, analyzing workforce data, and producing organization-specific case study reports. These activities served an estimated several thousand workers across participating organizations. The objective of this work is to generate empirical evidence on how changes in employer practices affect burnout, engagement, retention, and job quality. The Institute's longer-term goal is to disseminate evidence-based guidance that informs organizational decision-making and public discourse on the future of work.

Program accomplishments

  • During 2024, the organization focused on foundational development necessary to carry out its exempt purposes. The nonprofit was established and formally launched in July 2024. Following formation, the organization obtained Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval in September 2024 to conduct ethical research involving human participants, a required prerequisite for its program activities. The remainder of the year was dedicated to building core infrastructure, including development of the organization's website, research protocols, and administrative systems to support future pilot programs. No direct program services were delivered in 2024; program implementation is scheduled to begin in the subsequent tax year.
