Mission

Workers Against The Recidivism Rate (WATRRS GROUP) tackles the recidivism rate by addressing the root causes from both ends of life. We are dedicated to educating and empowering youth, transforming them into leaders and productive members of society. Our goal is to cultivate role models who will inspire and guide other at-risk youth, fostering a community of resilience and positive change. We empower youth through education, cultivating them into leaders and productive individuals who can inspire and guide other at-risk youth. Additionally, we provide support for adults returning from incarceration, creating safe spaces where they can settle, rebuild their lives, and forge a bright future.

Program accomplishments

  • We have been able to gain trust with the at-risk youth and their families, and we have supported them through volunteering in the community, at the beach, park clean-ups. We have helped youth be able to get their birth certificates, SSN cards, and their state ID to enter the workforce. We also inspired the at-risk youth to re-enter school and help them see that the way they are living is only short-term and to think of long-term goals. The success of the outcome is that the kids have walked away from the gang and the life of crime. They now have set goals to finish high school and go on to college, and still work. Some who have taken their GED and dropped out of school and gotten jobs, and are now trying to create their own business. We are now going into other low-income housing and reaching out to the youth and taking them on field trips to the beach and doing things with them to show that there are people who actually care for them and want to see them succeed. Some of our youth need medical care, and we have gotten them medical care, and now they are getting treatment for their mental health. We take food for them to feed their families to help with cost within their home, so that they are not forced into crime. This has been working for over a year now.
