C50 - Environmental beautification
Program accomplishments
- F.E.W. Project - Flowering Edible Woods. Goal: provide free, and for purchase native edible fruit tree/shrub seedlings for individuals so that they have access to fresh, native, fruit/nuts/(edible)flowers. This helps lessen food insecurity, makes the environment more beautiful, and makes people more healthy. Each participant was eligible to receive 2 free fruit tree seedlings if they: 1. Pick them up in person 2. Plant them in the ground immediately 3. Take care of them until they reach maturity 4. Share the yield freely with others. All participants were also able to purchase up to 4 additional trees with a minimum donation of $5 per additional tree. During his project we gave out 311 free fruit trees to 130 people from over 50 different zip codes. All together we distributed 550 native fruit trees/shrubs. This years trees were donated by one of our board members so it only cost us volunteer time to distribute the trees.
- Resources collected and re-distributed We were able to collect 75.4lbs of food, 100 pair of socks, jackets, coats, and gloves to re-distribute these resources to other non-profits to help the houseless and needy in Kansas City. Food was collected by one of our board members, transferred to another board member, then donated to a food pantry in lees summit, MO. Gloves and socks and coats were collected and donated by a board member. These resources were then donated to a church distributing cold weather gear in North East Kansas City. The only cost this year was the time we volunteered to do this.
- INKlusive - A community collaborative drawing project. We provide all supplies needed for participants to come together around a 12ft table to express themselves creatively by drawing and coloring on a shared canvas. We use this opportunity to play, to create, and to build community which are core practices of WBM as stated in our mission statement. we hosted 12 events with 48 attendants over the year. We provided tea, coffee, and 36 meals to our attendants. Over the course of a year we were able to create a beautiful completed work of art to share with the community that was created by the community. All supplies for INKlusive were provided by our board members this year.
