Mission

Playbook for Progress is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering underprivileged youth through access to organized sports. By eliminating financial barriers to participation, we foster personal growth, academic achievement, leadership development, and community engagement. Our programs use sports as a tool to instill discipline, confidence, teamwork, and goal-setting, ultimately equipping youth with the skills to succeed both on and off the field.

Program accomplishments

  • In partnership with the 5th-grade team at Washington Elementary, Playbook for Progress led an interactive goal-setting workshop called "My Vision, My Future." During this event, students created personal vision boards using magazines, art supplies, and guided reflection questions. Volunteers from our team, including college athletes and mentors, helped students articulate their dreams, set personal and academic goals, and understand the value of planning for their futures. The session encouraged self-expression and long-term thinking, and over 50 students completed vision boards that they took home to continue reflecting on their aspirations.
    Expenses $352
  • Playbook for Progress hosted a series of free, multi-sport clinics at Peck Elementary School, providing underserved youth with access to organized sports in a safe and structured environment. Over the course of multiple sessions, more than 75 students participated in drills and games focused on teamwork, discipline, and personal development. All equipment and instruction were provided at no cost to families. The clinics emphasized not only physical activity but also sportsmanship and self-confidence, aligning with our mission to break down financial barriers and introduce positive mentorship through athletics.
  • Through our Beyond Recess initiative at Bessemer Elementary, Playbook for Progress provided a recurring after-school experience that blended physical activity with life-skills mentoring for 3rd-5th graders. The program used games and sports to teach communication, respect, and leadership, while also offering structured discussion circles on topics like perseverance, empathy, and faith. Over six weeks, students consistently engaged in guided activities that promoted positive behavior and character development. The program was led by trained volunteers and educators, reinforcing our commitment to holistic growth for youth beyond just playtime.
  • Playbook for Progress collaborated with the Aggie Run Club to launch Miles for Meals, a community-driven initiative focused on health, service, and giving. Participants pledged miles run or walked in exchange for canned food donations, encouraging physical activity while supporting a local cause. The campaign successfully collected hundreds of canned goods, which were donated to a local food bank serving families in need across Greensboro, NC. The initiative engaged students, athletes, and community members, promoting fitness, collective action, and social responsibility. This program expanded our impact beyond youth mentorship and sports access, demonstrating our commitment to addressing broader community needs.
