Mission

THE LIPIZZAN HERITAGE INSTITUTE'S PRIMARY EXEMPT PURPOSE IS TWO-FOLD: TO PRESERVE THE LIPIZZAN HORSE BREED AND TO PROMOTE THE HERITAGE AND PRACTICE OF CLASSICAL RIDING.

990-EZ for the year ended December 31, 2025

Program accomplishments

  • BELOW ARE THE TOP 3 ACCOMPLISHMENTS ACHIEVED IN 2025, IN SUPPORT OF OUR PURPOSES: (1)TO PROMOTE CLASSICAL RIDING, WE HOSTED OUR FIRST EDUCATIONAL EVENT IN MAY 2025. IT WAS A THREE DAY CLINIC WITH CONRAD SCHUMACHER, AT THE FARM OF OUR 1ST AMBASSADOR PARTNER, GOOD LUCK FARMS, IN BOULDER, COLORADO. MR. SCHUMACHER INSTRUCTED 14 HORSE/RIDER COMBINATIONS WHILE 30 AUDITORS WATCHED. MR. SCHUMACHER IS AN OLYMPIC COACH AND WELL-RESPECTED GERMAN CLASSICAL RIDING MASTER. (2)ALSO IN PROMOTION OF CLASSICAL RIDING, WE HOSTED A CELEBRATION OF THE LIFE OF ALF ATHENSTAEDT, ON JULY 19, 2025, IN OLD MILL CREEK, ILLINOIS. AT THIS EVENT WE OFFICIALLY LAUNCHED THE LIPIZZAN HERITAGE INSTITUTE AND INTRODUCED A MEMORIAL AWARD IN HONOR OF ALF ATHENSTAEDT. THIS ANNUAL AWARD WOULD RECOGNIZE AN INDIVIDUAL WHOSE HAS PROVIDED SIGNIFICANT CONTRIBUTIONS TO CLASSICAL RIDING. ABOUT 50 PEOPLE ATTENDED THE EVENT. ALF ATHENSTAEDT WAS A GREAT CHAMPION OF CLASSICAL RIDING, SERVING AS A TRAINER AND RIDER AT THE TEMPEL LIPIZZANS FROM 1965 UNTIL HIS RETIREMENT IN 2002. HIS IMPACT ON THE DRESSAGE COMMUNITY IN THE UNITED STATES WAS SIGNIFICANT. (3)IN PROMOTION OF THE PRESERVATION OF THE LIPIZZAN HORSE BREED, THE LIPIZZAN HERITAGE INSTITUTE OFFICIALLY LAUNCHED ITS EMERGING BREEDERS PROGRAM, IN OCTOBER 2025. OVER A DOZEN NEW AND SENIOR NORTH AMERICAN LIPIZZAN BREEDERS MET AT GOOD LUCK FARMS, IN BOULDER, COLORADO. THE EVENTS SPANNED A WEEKEND AND OVERLAPPED WITH THE UNITED STATED LIPIZZAN FEDERATION'S BREEDING EVALUATIONS BY LIF 4-STAR JUDGE DR. YVONNE PEETERS. BESIDES THE BREEDING EVALUATIONS, EVENTS INCLUDED A LONGING 101 MINI CLINIC: A CLASSICAL APPROACH, DEMONSTRATED BY FORMER HEAD TRAINER AT TEMPEL LIPIZZANS, BILL CLEMENTS AND A NETWORKING EVENT AMIDST THE LIPIZZAN HERD OF GOOD LUCK FARMS. THE EMERGING BREEDERS PROGRAM WAS CREATED FOR THE PURPOSE OF INTENTIONALLY PROVIDING SUPPORT AND RESOURCING FOR AMERICAN BREEDERS OF LIPIZZANS. WITH ONLY ABOUT 880 LIPIZZAN HORSES IN NORTH AMERICA, THERE IS A NEED FOR A BREEDER SUPPORT SYSTEM AND A MEANS OF NETWORKING. THE GOAL OF THE EMERGING BREEDERS PROGRAM IS TO HELP FACILITATE THE EDUCATIONAL PROCESS AND PROVIDE MEANS AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR BREEDERS TO ASK QUESTIONS AND GAIN KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING OF THE LIPIZZAN BREED.
