Mission
Animal Rescue Specifically Native Wildlife Rescue Treatment and Rehabilitation
Program accomplishments
- Panhandle Wildlife Rescue, Inc. is a nonprofit wildlife rehabilitation organization dedicated to the rescue, medical treatment, rehabilitation, and release of injured, orphaned, and displaced native wildlife, while also supporting public health through zoonotic disease response and wildlife education. During 2025-2026 the organization provided emergency intake, medical treatment, rehabilitation, and release services for mammals, birds, and reptiles. Approximately 91% of admissions originated from Walton, Okaloosa, and Bay Counties, although services were provided across 11 counties. The organization operated as the region's primary wildlife trauma and rehabilitation facility, maintaining between 30 and 200 patients in care at any given time depending on seasonal demand. Wildlife care included medical evaluations, treatment of injuries and illnesses, administration of medications, diagnostic testing, rehabilitation, and release preparation. During the year, the organization performed or coordinated approximately 65 surgeries, provided treatment requiring bloodwork for 544 patients, administered medications to more than 1,100 patients, and hand-raised approximately 931 orphaned wildlife patients. The organization also served an important public health role by responding to wildlife cases involving potential zoonotic diseases and by assisting the public with injured and sick wildlife encounters. Educational outreach and community engagement activities included presentations, media appearances, volunteer training, and conservation education programs designed to promote wildlife stewardship and coexistence with native species. Operations were supported by a small staff and a network of volunteers who collectively contributed approximately 5,500 volunteer hours during the year, allowing the organization to expand wildlife care capacity while maintaining essential rescue and rehabilitation services.
