Mission

Charitable services to individuals with physical disabilities, and organizations serving them, pursuing the sport of wheelchair racing.

990-EZ for the year ended December 31, 2025

Program accomplishments

  • Wheels for Change, Inc.'s Bridging Borders program supports international wheelchair racing training organizations in regions where financial barriers prevent participation. In 2025, it ordered and paid for one new racing wheelchair for Gogetdem Wheelchair Racing Club in Ghana. This will replace a racing chair that was totaled during a marathon. It also provided grants to fund a five-day wheelchair racing workshop for 20 athletes and granted a variety of wheelchair racing supplies and equipment to help maintain the club's equipment and properly fit the athletes. Approximately 50 hours of volunteer time was donated to assist with future training plans, ordering and shipping supplies, and evaluating the possibility of beginning a second outreach in Kenya.
    Expenses $6,912 · grants $6,832
  • The Rolling Start Program provides short term loans of wheelchair racing equipment to new athletes, preferably through an existing training program, so that they can compete on their school or club team. In 2025, WFC purchased 6 new racing chairs and accepted the donation of 4 used racing chairs and one roller, along with various other small equipment pieces. Approximately 30 volunteer hours were spent gathering these donations, and 15 volunteer hours were spent cleaning these chairs and performing necessary repairs. This brought our total inventory of chairs to 16 at year end. We loaned out six custom racing wheelchairs that were used by eight athletes, as well as purchasing a used training roller that was used by one athlete. Approximately 50 volunteer hours were spent arranging delivery and fitting the athletes in these chairs. In early 2025, we purchased a cargo trailer for storing our racing inventory. Contacts were made with multiple regional wheelchair racing programs to establish a network of programs to which new athletes can be referred, and we worked with Orange County Public Schools in FL to help their student racers integrate into the school team.
    Expenses $6,276
  • Knowledge Hub: This program provides education about wheelchair racing to athletes, coaches, parents, and other supporters. In 2025, we provided four educational/hands on sessions at the Hartford Move United Nationals in Grand Rapids, MI, giving information on wheelchair racing and maintenance skills, including giving away tools so that athletes could properly maintain their racing chairs. This effort involved 3.5 days of volunteered time by two elite wheelchair racers as well as three other volunteers, in addition to 50+ hours of preparation/planning time. A second focus for 2025 was filming the basic cuts for a series of introductory wheelchair racing videos, involving 40+ hours of writing and filming time. We also spent 10+ hours consulting individually with wheelchair racers to troubleshoot issues they were encountering.
    Expenses $3,032
