990 for the year ended December 31, 2025

Program accomplishments

  • AMPLIFY: MiCAN elevates equitable climate solutions and stories by providing a high-visibility platform for grassroots leaders and critical energy narratives. Key initiatives include our False v. Just Solutions series which educates the public on distinguishing misinformation from community-empowered climate strategies our climate voter project which provides critical nonpartisan reporting on climate issues in election years and the Michigan Climate Champion Awards which recognize professional volunteer and youth leadership. We work to keep climate consequences at the center of energy policy demonstrated by our public appeal of the Michigan Public Service Commissions approval of the Line 5 oil tunnel to ensure climate impacts are legally and publicly recognized. Through collaborative events with partners across the state and region and digital communications platforms reaching 150,000 people MiCAN ensures diverse demographics are empowered to shape Michigans climate future.
    Expenses $53,409 · revenue $150,058
  • CONNECT: MiCAN functions as a central connector for Michigans climate movement building the infrastructure necessary for collective impact. We focus on cultivating an empowered well-trained well-coordinated durable network that builds power for the climate movement overall. Through our Steering Committee comprised of grassroots climate member organizations we facilitate collaboration and the shared investment of time and resources to build long-term movement power. By acting as a switchboard for the people and organizations leading on-the-ground work MiCAN bridges the gap between local efforts and statewide strategy. Our participation in a broad collection of coalitions and partner organizations further strengthens this infrastructure ensuring a unified and expanded reach for climate action across the region.
    Expenses $53,409 · revenue $150,058
  • SUPPORT: MiCAN provides essential resources and capacity-building to empower individuals and grassroots organizations. We serve as a support hub for member-led events and actions providing the additional promotion funding and logistical planning necessary to ensure successful local initiatives. To further increase the capacity of our organizational members we launched the Community Climate Action Fellowship in collaboration with the University of Michigan providing students with meaningful hands-on experience while strengthening local organizations on the frontlines of climate justice and resilience. Additionally we prioritize movement sustainability by offering art and cultural programming designed to build emotional resilience supporting on-the-ground efforts to challenge fossil fuel-funded opposition blocking local wind and solar power projects and supporting organizing on emerging environmental issues such as data centers.
