Mission

PRP is a grassroots conservation and preservation focused nonprofit serving Raynolds Pass and the Upper Madison Valley. We listen to property owners' concerns and then develop and implement solutions as they emerge. We deeply appreciate the vital role Madison County's agricultural land, water, public lands and wildlife play in Montana and the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. We collaborate with a community invested in protecting property values and quality of life within an agricultural and rural district in the Madison River Valley, referred to by some as the "American Serengeti." Specifically, we mobilize property owners, government officials, and legal resources to protect water levels and water quality, prevent degradation and destruction of wildlife habitat and migratory corridors, ensure public safety, and to preserve the natural beauty of the surrounding area.

Program accomplishments

  • Organized the community's opposition to defeat an ill-advised 150-slot RV Park development application. Supported development of the 2025 Madison County Growth Policy and Subdivision Regulations through community outreach and participation in public hearings. Launched a community wide Citizen Initiated Zoning initiative. Launched Desktop Assessment of Raynolds Pass Groundwater Study with engineering firm, Water and Environmental Technologies (WET). Invited Upper Missouri Waterkeepers to support Madison County water body setbacks. Their letter was an important contribution to public comment and set the stage for enforcement of the regulations.
