Mission
Cake Changes Everything (CCE) will focus on supporting young adults transitioning from foster care into independent living. These young adults are often finding themselves without the critical support (physical, emotional, and financial) they need at such a vulnerable time in their lives. Many of these young adults lack the basic skills to become independent and self- supporting. Our focus will be to provide programs and services that are identified as critically needed. Our goal is to support programs and services that allow for the long-term success and wellbeing of the participants. We will evolve our efforts and focus as the needs of this population change.
Program accomplishments
- CCE is in the beginning stages of coordinating a local program called Open Table where 6 mentors sit at a table with 1 transitioning foster to learn how this individual needs support. Meetings will continue once a month for 1 year. Upon learning what the needs are, CCE will coordinate with providing resources such as resume assistance, interviewing practice, locating car donations, providing registration and insurance coverage to help the individual cover start up expenses. CCE will be creating additional programs to assist transitioning foster individuals with daily living skills such as cooking, baking, budgeting, and time management. CCE will actively raise funds to cover these activities as well as recruit volunteer mentors to support the activities. This Open Table program is committing 1 year of support per each transitioning foster individual. The program is opening with 19 fosters and looking forward to expanding this to many more over the years.Expenses $50,288
