Program accomplishments

  • 1) On April 6, 2024, we held a Spring Walk & Education session entitled "Stepping Up for Children's Mental Health". This event provided the opportunity to learn about how parents and teachers can support their children, the community, and our schools to ensure children's mental health is supported. Jenna Borrelli, LCSW-C, Director of Wellness and Health at Bullis School, discussed the latest research on school mental health and provided resources to help attendees better support children's emotional and social well-being. 2) We held an event on World Mental Health Day on October 10, 2024 to raise awareness of the need for a continued commitment to provide mental health services to children in the DC, Maryland and Virginia communities. We recognized thought leaders in this field (including Congressman Jamie Raskin, Dr. Lee Beers, Angela Alsobrooks, and Dr. Shelli Avenevoli) and raised funds to support the following 3 worthy organizations that support our mission: Lourie Center for Children's Emotional and Social Wellness, Morgan's Message and Generation Hope. Champions for Children helped fund the following for each of the grantees: 1-Adventist HealthCare Lourie Center for Children's Social and Emotional Wellness provides specialized mental health services for at-risk children. CFC support went towards funding emergency psychiatric screenings and crisis support for children ages 4-11, ensuring they get the care they need in their most critical moments. 2-Morgan's Message works to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health in athletics. CFC donations were used to support peer-to-peer meetings at over 1,700 schools and campuses, as well as the continued production of their podcast, *The Mental Matchup*. 3-Generation Hope takes a two-generation approach, helping teen parents and their children achieve economic mobility through education and mental health services. CFC contributions helped provide tuition assistance, career support, and flexible mental health services.
