Mission
To ensure the long-term sustainability of the California commercial lobster fishery through proactive environmental stewardship and effective policy advocacy. We protect the marine environment by recovering lost fishing gear and debris from the California coast, while advocating for regulations that support the fishery's ecological and economic future.
Program accomplishments
- The California Coastal Cleanup Initiative: The removal of lost, abandoned, and derelict commercial fishing gear and other marine debris from the California coast and Channel Islands. The initiative identifies, retrieves, and either returns salvageable gear to its owner or disposes of non-salvageable debris at appropriate recycling and waste facilities.Industry Advocacy and Education: We advocate on behalf of the California commercial lobster fishery to promote regulations and policies that ensure its long-term sustainability. This includes submitting public comments, providing testimony at hearings, and educating policymakers and the public about the industry's economic and ecological importance.Member & Board Governance Meetings: We conduct an Annual Spring Board Meeting for strategic planning and hold Pre-Season Virtual Meetings to prepare members for the upcoming fishing season.Expenses $7,331
