Mission

Our mission is to provide a safe and welcoming event that families can gather and participate in together while raising funds to support college scholarships for deserving high school students. Race founder Santiago Sanchez saw a great need in the community for more youth driven activities since he saw many teenagers skipping class and smoking in public. Santiago's idea was to provide the youth with something to train for and look forward to. His idea was to start a 10k foot race (6.2 miles) held on a holiday so families, friends, and people in the community could participate. In 1979 Santiago, along with this daughter Gloria, hosted the first Guajolote 10k race event on Thanksgiving morning. Laredo's first and original foot race. What started as a small 60 participant event has continued growing through the decades to over 300 participants.
