Program accomplishments

  • Due to this ongoing family emergency, I have not been able to dedicate time and effort to take steps necessary to accomplish Guardian ad Litem of the Upstate service goals. I became the legal guardian for my mother in June 2023; my mother was diagnosed with Lewy body dementia and atypical Parkinson's. Her health declined significantly and in March 2024, in her bedroom at the assisted living facility where she resided, she suffered a fall in which she sustained a subnormal hematoma, broken nose, fractured nasal cavity, and fractured rib. In April 2024, while at the short-term rehabilitation facility, my mother was found breathing but unresponsive. She was taken to the nearest hospital which she stayed for approximately 1 week. During her stay, I was informed that she would need to be discharged to a skilled nursing facility. I worked with the hospital social worker and my mother was moved into the skilled nursing facility once discharged from the hospital in May 2024. My mother's dementia and atypical Parkinson's disease & symptoms continued to worsen. In October 2024, my mother's neurologist placed her on hospice. After being placed on hospice, I researched organizations and put in place pre-death final arrangements. As a result, I have not been able to dedicate time and effort to take steps necessary to accomplish Guardian ad Litem of the Upstate service goals.
