Mission
Veterans and Patriots United (VPU) is a faith-based organization dedicated to helping veterans overcome homelessness, PTSD, addiction, and other service-related challenges. Through sober housing, transportation assistance, peer support, crisis intervention, treatment placement, mentorship, counseling, and community service opportunities, VPU empowers veterans to rebuild stable, productive, and meaningful lives while continuing to serve others.
Program accomplishments
- Veteran Recovery Housing and Transitional Support. Veterans & Patriots United (VPU) provided recovery housing, peer support, and transitional assistance to veterans experiencing homelessness, substance use disorders, PTSD, and other service-related challenges. During 2025, VPU housed 42 veterans on-site and facilitated placement of an additional 27 veterans into residential treatment programs, including Camp Hope, Great Oaks Recovery Center, and West Oaks Hospital. VPU expanded outreach efforts across Walker, Montgomery, Madison, Harris, and surrounding counties, providing intervention services, recovery support, and continued follow-up assistance for past program participants. The organization also assisted homeless veterans from outside Texas in obtaining housing and recovery services through VPU programming. Additionally, VPU established partnerships with two new properties in Montgomery County to provide long-term housing opportunities for veterans transitioning toward independent living. More than 350 veterans benefited from VPU's housing, recovery, and support services during the year.Expenses $71,203 · grants $800
- Mental Health, Transportation and Crisis Assistance. VPU provided transportation, financial assistance, and direct support services to veterans seeking medical care, counseling, treatment, and crisis intervention. The organization funded and coordinated transportation for veterans receiving professional counseling through Refuge Counseling Center and medical care through the Houston VA Hospital and surrounding treatment facilities specializing in PTSD and behavioral health services. Transportation services were expanded in 2025 to assist elderly and disabled veterans living in rural communities and to support local Veteran Service Organizations. VPU invested more than $20,000 in transportation-related expenses, including fuel, vehicle maintenance, insurance, and transportation support, ensuring veterans could access counseling, medical treatment, recovery programming, court appearances, and other critical services. VPU also provided emergency assistance to veterans facing immediate crises, including temporary shelter for women veterans, emergency medical bill assistance for disabled veterans, vehicle repairs, and the donation of three vehicles to veterans in need. VPU's crisis response team assisted multiple veterans experiencing emergency situations, including female veterans who were victims of sexual assault, helping connect them with legal resources and urgent medical care. Hundreds of veterans benefited from transportation, counseling support, crisis intervention, and emergency assistance services throughout 2025.Expenses $27,089 · grants $4,000
- Veteran Peer Support, Community Engagement and Rehabilitation Programs. VPU provided ongoing peer support, mentorship, rehabilitation, and community engagement opportunities designed to improve veterans' long-term recovery, purpose, and quality of life. The organization hosted weekly 12-step recovery meetings for veterans and first responders and partnered with FOB Rasor and Tri-County Behavioral Healthcare to facilitate weekly recovery meetings within the veteran housing pod at Montgomery County Jail. VPU continued its prison ministry partnership with AIMVETS, providing Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT) programming and facilitator development for incarcerated veterans within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice system. The organization also supported veterans participating in Veterans Treatment Court programs and facilitated attendance for 30 veterans at recovery and healing retreats. Additional programming included veteran beekeeping education, development of income producing beekeeping opportunities, volunteer service projects with community organizations, weekly maintenance and veteran recognition activities at the HEARTS Veterans Museum of Texas Vietnam Memorial, Toys for Tots coordination, and a partnership with Heart & Hammer that provided hundreds of volunteer labor hours and more than $100,000 in home repairs, renovations, and mold remediation benefiting disabled veterans. Veterans & Patriots United operates entirely through volunteers, with no compensated officers, directors, or program staff. The organization's leadership team alone contributes more than 5,700 volunteer hours annually, and countless additional volunteer hours are provided by veterans, community members, and partner organizations. This volunteer-driven model allows the vast majority of organizational resources to be directed toward housing assistance, transportation, recovery services, emergency aid, and other programs that directly benefit veterans and their families. Through these peer support, rehabilitation, volunteer service, and community engagement programs, VPU positively impacted hundreds of veterans and their families during 2025.
