Mission

In Phase One, to work with individuals, schools, churches, and communities throughout the length and breadth of The Bahamas to be the source they turn to for supplies without charge and mentorship without compensation as we re-boot the desire to farm. In Phase Two, to take what is remaining from the initial distribution of supplies and knowledge to assist those who wish to start or expand commercial farming. Together, from the smallest backyard vegetable garden to the largest produce, poultry, or porcine farm, ADO will drive down the annual $1 billion-plus food import burden on The Bahamas while improving the quality of life through healthier, unpreserved, more naturally grown and packaged food for all.

990-EZ for the year ended December 31, 2024

Program accomplishments

  • Backyard Farming - Distributed approximately 3,200 backyard kits throughout the Bahamas. These kits are given to community members to start a farm, making a more sustainable and economic impression on families and individuals. The kits serve as a startup for families, allowing them to progress to larger front or backyard farms. ADO has provided consultation videos, and individuals can get help via a visit or a call if they have questions or concerns. The Backyard initiative aims to assist individuals and the wider community with products that reduce their grocery bills, thereby enhancing greater economic impact for citizens.
  • School Farming - Assisted 32 schools throughout the Bahamas with supplies. School farming students' age ranges from 12 to 18. The majority of participating schools are higher primary, junior, and senior high schools throughout the Bahamas, primarily consisting of public schools.
    Expenses $100,000 · grants $100,000
  • Community Farms -Established six community farms, including one in Exuma and five in Nassau, New Providence. These farms are geared to bring communities together by participating in activities surrounding the farms, creating a more tight-knit community. The goal is also to measure community-driven activities and how the farms impact and create community awareness. During the seasons, we usually plant vegetables such as leafy greens, corn, beets, cabbage, carrots, and onions. For summer, we select crops that can sustain the drastic heat, such as okra and watermelons.
