Mission
The mission of the Marvin Thomas Memorial Fund is to disrupt and remove barriers that create disadvantages for youth and their families by providing Athletics, Mentorship, Outreach, and Educational programming.
Program accomplishments
- Healing Group - We serve young Black and Brown ladies between 12 and 17; however, all are welcome. In 2022, we launched G.RO.W., an 8-week summer program to help 15 predominantly Black young ladies navigate the pressures of teenage life and be that village when there is a missing component of the family and community dynamic. According to Statisticalatlas.com, 77% of Black youth in Seattle are living in households headed by a single parent. This can make it extremely difficult for the parent to provide for the holistic needs of the child. G.R.O.W. is a summer leadership program that covers six topics from an Afrocentric, woman-led point of view.Expenses $50,000
