Mission

The vision of Spokane Humane Society is to enrich the lives of animals and their companions through Support, Education, Advocacy and Love (SEAL). As the oldest local non-profit in Spokane, we have been serving companion animals in need and providing refuge since 1897.

Program accomplishments

  • At Spokane Humane Society, every animal begins their journey through our on-site veterinary clinic, which serves as the heart of our operations. Over 2,300 publicly owned animals receive essential services through our clinic, including vaccinations, microchipping, spay/neuter surgeries, dental cleanings, and other medical treatments. All shelter animals are evaluated and treated in our clinic before entering adoption, ensuring they are healthy and ready for placement. We place over 1,600 shelter animals into loving homes annually, thanks to the care they receive through our clinic and foster network. Our Pet Community Food Bank distributes over 50,000 pounds of food and treats to families in need, helping pets stay in their homes and out of the shelter system.SHS volunteers contribute over 470 hours weekly. Our foster network places animals into homes where their Fear, Anxiety, and Stress is reduced. K9s in foster care once up for adoption are 14x more likely to be adopted.Through our Veterinary Medical Assistance Program (VMAP), we provide compassionate, low-cost care to both shelter animals and pets owned by low-income families in our community.
