Mission
TO DEVELOP A MAYOR'S ALLIANCE ON LITERACY THAT WILL SERVE AS AN UMBRELLA FOR KEY ORGANIZATIONS FROM PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SECTORS OF MACON-BIBB TO ESTABLIST A CERTIFIED LITERATE COMMUNITY PROGRAM (CLCP).
Program accomplishments
- THE MACON-BIBB MAYOR'S LITERACY ALLIANCE (MBMLA) IS A COMMUNITY-DRIVEN INITIATIVE ESTABLISHED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE MACON-BIBB GOVERNMENT, BIBB COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT, AND CENTRAL GEORGIA TECHNICAL COLLEGE (ADULT EDUCATION DIVISION). MBMLA FOCUSES ON IMPROVING LITERACY IN MACON-BIBB COUNTY. MBMLA ADDRESSES LITERACY CHALLENGES, PARTICULARLY AMONG CHILDREN AND ADULTS AND PROMOTES A CULTURE OF READING AND LIFELONG LEARNING. THE KEY AIMS OF MBMLA INCLUDE DEVELOPING COLLABORATIVE PARTNERSHIPS AND SUPPORTING FAMILIES TO IMPROVE THEIR QUALITY OF LIFE AND COMMUNITY GROWTH THROUGH LITERACY. MBMLA ESTABLISHED A PARTNERSHIP WITH THE NATIONAL CENTER FOR FAMILIES LEARNINGS, SECURING ITS FIRST EVER PRESENCE ON A NATIONAL PLATFORM. THROUGH THIS PARTNERSHIP, MBMLA WAS DESIGNATED AS A NCFL 60X30 FAMILY LEARNING COMMUNITY. MBMLA RELEASED ITS TWO GENERATION STRATEGIC PLAN TO IMPROVE LITERACY THROUGH MULTIPLE PILLARS (FAMILY LITERACY, DIGITAL LITERACY, ENVIRONMENTAL LITERACY, RE-ENTRY LITERACY, AND WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT) AIMED AT SUPPORTING BOTH CHILDREN AND ADULTS.Expenses $136,424
