Mission

Beit Kohanot Inc dba Chevra HaChachamot is a Jewish religious organization. Our primary purpose is to advance opportunities for worship, support, community, and leadership for persons identifying as women and their families, who have historically been marginalized and excluded.

990-EZ for the year ended September 30, 2025

Program accomplishments

  • Regular weekly and holy day worship and educational services, online and eventually in-person, as well as officiating Jewish lifecycle events for community members and others. Services are performed by law leaders, leaders in training, and ordained members of our congregation. Other related programming as needed will be offered to support the spiritual life and development of the community. All worship and regular congregational activities are open to anyone, regardless of religious affiliation, that has a sincere interest in worship and educational experiences. Development of a congregational Siddur is underway.
  • A Mutual Aid program to collect funds for charitable disbursements: In the 24-25 Fiscal Year, we provided small grants to individuals who were unemployed; who had HVAC issues; who needed household goods and clothing; study materials for Bnei Mitzvah; Shabbat supplies; moving expenses; as well as helping cover emergency expenses for Disabled and for LGBTQ persons.
    grants $2,854
  • Academy program: Development of a lay women's leadership program continues. The Chevra is also in preliminary discussions with the local Jewish Federation in regards to a long term plant to establish a Jewish dayschool or homeschool cooperative where members of the Chevra would assist in teaching students and administering the program.
  • Membership and participation with other organizations involved in community programming to support religious, educational, charitable, and women's programs in the larger Jewish community both at state and national levels. We intend to have a presence at Jewish or Clergy related conferences and conventions on topics of relevance to our community, such as liturgical development, historical education, antisemitism, or congregational security and disaster planning. Opportunities to attend such events will be offered to both lay leaders and ordained members, as well as other members of the congregation who wish to participate. This year we have offered our services to the local Jewish Federation as part of a community facilities plan.
  • A capital campaign to purchase land for constructing a synagogue, classrooms and a future dormitory, miqvah (ritual immersion facility), community kitchen and social hall, garden and orchard space, facilities for RV and tent campers traveling to attend classes or events, and a future residence hall for cloistered or retired members of our order. Studios for spiritually focused artists, musicians, and spaces other spiritually based professional services offered by members and open to the public are ultimately planned. This year we have begun talks with the local Jewish Federation office to begin with the construction of a community Miqvah. There is a committee that is working on this project. The Chevra has pledged a $5000 grant at such time as the Federation is ready to begin, to cover startup costs for land use permitting, etc.
